I heard something that the tolls may be removed from a part of Highway 407. That would help and be a better idea than building Highway 413.
And one thing that could be done on Highway 401 is to make lanes reserved for Trucks and Busses (Coach Busses) only. That would make truck travel safer to have truck specific lanes, also not slowing down cars. Trucks may need to significantly adjust speed based on conditions, which can create a traffic snake for cars. Not saying traffic snakes can't happen with cars, but it would be more controlled and could be lessened as cars and trucks would be seperate.
Having a more organized approach to lanes on 401 would make the road safer and simpler to navigate. Like I say about induced demand by adding more lanes, this is a context where it makes sense. In Winnipeg with Route 90, having a 3 lane road is simpler than 4 or more lanes. For arterial roads, the innermost lane is for traffic with an intention to turn left, central for going straight through, and the outermost for those wishing to turn right eventually. For freeways, innermost is for passing, central is for driving straight or normal speed, and outermost is for an intention to turn. Having all those lanes on 401 makes the road dangerous and more complex to navigate.
Hopefully HOV Lanes could also be added too.
