On this, I recently did some travelling in Canada. I was with a family member who really likes the news. We noticed in few places that the hotel's TV satellite service had a channel where it was all of the local CTV news broadcasts from across the country, successively aired one after the other throughout the day. So Halifax, Ottawa, Toronto and Vancouver. But also Kitchener, Saskatoon, etc.
Anyway when we had down time in the hotel room we'd often watch that. I swear to God every single newscast was mainly about societal mayhem of some kind: home invasions, strangers attacks, shootings, creepy dude assaulting females in a park, hateful vandalism on synagogues, school closed due to violent threats, homeless dude stabs another one in an encampment. This was true of smaller cities too. Not just the bigger ones.
