If J.D. Vance is also an isolationist, then it's actually not such great news for Canada, I would say. As was often said, someone with the same orientations as Trump but with a longer attention span and greater competency could easily achieve MORE than Trump (i.e. make things worse than Trump), not less......

Hard to say, but yes, I'll grant you the obvious: no other politician of our era would be able to control his party's Congressional delegations the way Trump manages to right now. Which means that JD Vance's "bad" ideas would get way more "checked and balanced" than Trump's.

And BTW I see no reason why Vance wouldn't last all the way to the end of his term, and maybe even get reelected if he's doing a half-decent job and the Dems' candidate for 2028 sucks again. (Incumbent Advantage...)

This is all bullshit. I read actual statistics in regards to illegal migrants coming from Canada. To be fair, it has increased exponentially beginning in 2022, with 2/3 of the migrants of East Indian background. However, the total number of people crossing illegally was 19,000 at it's peak in 2023 (about 10% successfully made it to America of the 190,000 that attempted to cross), and has dropped significantly since. Compare that to Mexico, where over 1,000,000 illegals cross the border.illegally. The 2023 number was 7x higher than pre-COVID levels.

More importantly, what about all the illegal firearms and drugs that cross into Canada from the USA? With friends like the US, who needs enemies?

I know I am in the minority, but personally my reaction to stuff like this is more "what will be the true impact - negative or positive - on Canada?" as opposed to "OMG-Trump-did-this-he-is-such-a-horrible-fascist!".

The reality is that we do have a growing problem with people entering the country from the US either illegally or at least in "unofficial" ways.

I am not saying that this is any more than sabre-rattling or window-dressing (as is often the case with the Trump administration) but I will still wait and see what it turns out to be.

Nearly everything Trump has done since assuming office in January has had negative consequences for Canada-US relations. More worrisome, is the confidence the World has in the US has eroded completely. Russia, China, and India just met to increase trade in the aftermath of the US imposing tariffs on the World (sans Russia).

The Western World could be in big trouble if America continues to implids, and it could be the beginning of a loss of the quality of life North Americans and Europeans have enjoyed for the past century, while Asia becomes the main economic powerhouse of the World.

I am sorry but this is just not what the statistics say. At least not in Quebec which is where a huge chunk of these crossings are taking place. At Lacolle south of Montreal crossings are up 50% in 2025 so far over the same period in 2024. In July over 3000 people arrived versus 600 in July 2024.

Acajacques this is just not true for Canada as a nation. Unsure about the crossing you mentioned but crossings from Canada to the US are down substantially, so much that US border towns are being hit dramatically.

I also wanted to add (but forgot) that the real counter-argument to mine, which alleges that this is a growing problem, isn't "bullshit! lies! conspiracy theories! xenophobia! racism!", but rather...

"Canada is a huge prosperous country with lots of space and a need for more people. There is true suffering in the world and we should do our part to host as many of these downtrodden people as we can."

America threatens us, conducts pervasive interference operations, and CSIS hasn't said a god damn thing.

But the China boogieman! The China boogieman is an American created red herring, to distract Canadians from American aggression. And because US is petrified by China's rate of innovation. So why TF is CSIS peddling American propaganda?

CSIS is probably afraid of retaliation, just like most of Europe is. There is now a constitutional crisis looming in America. Democracy may be s thing of the past when all is said and done.

Russia just flew drones into Polish territory, which makes Poland plan on invoking Article 4 of the NATO articles. This is all in the aftermath of the Alaska summit between Trump and Putin. Make no mistake about it, Putin does not respect Trump, and judging from the silence from the White House, Trump probably will not do anything to help NATO, or warn Russia for that matter.

Trump is definitely the weakest leader in US history, and probably compromised by Russia.

On the other hand though, as you pointed out yourself, Poland and its EU allies don’t need Trump on board to be able to kick Russia’s ass. By doing this, Putin risks Poland becoming more involved in helping Ukraine.

Russia has already bitten much more than it can chew…… and now it wants to try to also bite Poland?!?!?
