My hypothetical Steinbach bypass. It would be Highway 112 or 12X during construction, and eventually a realignment of Highway 12, which the city route could be renamed to 12A or 12B. This may seem like pie in the sky, but it would be great to see in the future term (2040 ish). Highway 12 City Route has poorly timed traffic signals and is already somewhat starting to outgrow its current route. Since maybe 20% of traffic continue South of Steinbach, especially trucks, a bypass would make some sense. This could also give easier access to businesses on the Western side of the city (on Highway 52).

The expressway would be a 4 lane Divided Freeway North of Highway 52, and a 2 lane super two with limited Intersections South of Makenzie St. It would use either at-grade traffic signals or roundabouts.

Highway 311 and 303 (with paving) would be de-facto North and South Legs of the Ring Road.

For an Interchange for the Highway 75 bypass, this is how they should make it for Pembina. This provides connection to Highway 247 along with traffic calming for Pembina Highway. Also, this design currently has lots of land it could use for the Highway 75 realignment, so I feel like they should claim it before someone takes it. And this Interchange design would be easier to construct.

Another thing is that it could possibly take away the need for other Intersections. Turski and Tencha Road Intersection could be dug out. Trappistes St at the bypass could possibly get away with a 3-way Intersection (whether that's a segregated T-Intersection (with NB RIRO for the Intersection). Or maybe it could use a Split Intersection to prepare for a future Diamond Interchange.

Also, does anyone think that Manitoba could trust us with 110KM/H on Highway 75 between the US Border and Morris, and Morris to Highway 247? Once the St Norbert Bypass would be constructed, it would make more sense. But at the same time, Highway 11 in Saskatchewan is 110KM/H outside of urban areas for its entire length except in Chamberlain, which goes down to 2-lanes and 50KM/H. So if it works on Highway 11, I don't see why it can't on 75.

We should be pushing for 130-150km/h limits on rural, twinned, motorways.

Canada is the 2nd largest landmass in the world, and the prairies are flat and straight. Yet we lag many countries on speed limits. We should be leading the world with the highest limits. The entire point of driving is to get places faster. So let's increase speed limits so we can do that.

Prairie Travel times at 150km/h speed limits

Winnipeg to Brandon: 1.5hr
Winnipeg to Regina: <4hr
Winnipeg to Calgary: <9hr
Winnipeg to Edmonton: 8.7hr
Edmonton to Calgary: 2hr

These politicians want to talk about "interprovincial trade barriers". Well insanely low speed limits are the biggest interprovincial trade barrier of them all.

For Manitoba Speed Limits:

Highway 75 from Highway 247 to Highway 330 North of Morris, and 75 South of Morris to the US Border could handle 110KM/H easily. If it was fully grade seperated with bypasses of St Norbert and Morris, it could go 120KM/H for its entire length (except North of 247). Once 75 leaves St Norbert, there's really no cities alongside the Route.

Highway 1 East of Winnipeg could handle 110KM/H easily. Just remove the Intersections and crank up the speed limit to 120KM/H.

Highway 12 from TCH to North Gate Drive in Steinbach may not be the best candidate for 110KM/H unless a bypass would get built on the West side.

Some other Highways in Manitoba could use a 105KM/H designation.

Highway 12 for most of its length South of Steinbach. There's no major towns really alongside the route. It's jsut that there's lots of driveways alongside the route and it doesn't have paved shoulders like 59 South of Highway 52 does now.

Highway 14 between 75 and Winkler could handle 105KM/H with some driveway removals.

Highway 10 extension from Cranberry Portage to Lynn Lake, Lynn Lake to Nunavut?

Here's my ranking of which yellow Corridors should be built:

Priority (2030s-2040s)
Medium Term (2040s-2050s)
Long Term (2050s and beyond)

Priority:
Corridor 3 (Sundance to Shammatawa)
Corridor 5
Corridor 6
Corridor 7
Corridor 9

Medium Term:
Corridor 3 (Churchill to Sundance)
Corridor 1 (Cranberry Portage to Lynn Lake)

Long Term:
Technically everything North of Blue Corridor 1 except Churchill Road.

So really, I'd like to see everything south of Blue Corridor 1 built throughout the 2030s and 2040s. The Road to Nunavut could be helpful, but right now it would rather be frivolous and government trophy.

Ya those North Eastern Reserves need connection badly. Wasagamack Airport is getting built, that's a good step. But $400 each way to reach Winnipeg is nuts.

I see Falcon Lake TCH Twinning is getting a rise.

AADT for this stretch is barely 4,000
AADT for Headingley is almost 20,000

Should Falcon Lake twinning happen? Yes
Should it be a provincial spending priority now? Hell no.

Many routes are higher priority. Methodical prioritization is key or we'll be stuck with shit roads forever.

Fix potholes. Then Mill & Fill main routes. Then overpass dangerous intersections. Then build the busiest bypasses.

Then, and only then, twin a road to party country that people take once a week, for 3 months a year. Unlike priority routes that commuters, business, and other productive members of society travel daily, year round.

Until the feds pay for this (which they should), it can't be a provincial spending priority.
